The Altensteiner Strasse residential complex is a listed building complex with the address Altensteiner Strasse 16–28a in Ruhla in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . The cultural monument was built from 1926 to 1928 according to a design by Thilo Schoder in the style of New Building .

history

In order to meet the demand for living space in the industrial city of Ruhla, which is known for its clock production , the Bauhaus architect Thilo Schoder was commissioned in 1926 to design an apartment building complex. By 1928 he created an ensemble of buildings with social housing, a city cafe, consumer goods sales point and a playground. Each apartment usually had two rooms, a kitchen and a toilet . In each staircase there was a shared bathroom on the top floor.

In the time of National Socialism , the flat roofs of the building complex were replaced by pointed roofs.

From 1998 to 2002 the facility was extensively renovated. The external condition including the original flat roof construction was restored. In contrast to the original state, each apartment has its own sanitary facilities.
