Bauhaus Museum Dessau
The Bauhaus Museum Dessau at the Dessau city park opened on September 8, 2019. It presents the collection of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation .
history
In 2015, an open international competition was announced for the new museum building. Out of 831 submissions, two first prizes were awarded: to the offices of addenda architects ( formerly González Hinz Zabala) from Barcelona and Young & Ayata from New York . The design by addenda architects (González Hinz Zabala) was selected for execution. The foundation stone was laid on December 4, 2016.
The building has an exhibition area of 2100 square meters and a usable area of 3500 square meters. A good 1000 exhibits are shown.
The opening of the Bauhaus Museum Dessau took place on September 8, 2019 by Chancellor Angela Merkel .
collection
The collection of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation comprises around 49,000 cataloged objects. This makes it the second largest collection on the Bauhaus theme in the world after the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin.
