Tree control

Sequence in the fulfillment of the due diligence obligations of the owner of a tree and documentation in the tree register

The tree inspection (also regular inspection) is a visual inspection of trees in the sense of the traffic safety obligation . Trees are regularly examined by systematic inspection (without technical aids) for traffic- endangering damage to roots, trunk and crown, often using the VTA method . Certain pathogens, severe defects and statically relevant damage can be hazardous to traffic and must be verified by a detailed examination in case of doubt.

If the inspector recognizes a danger, he can recommend tree care measures. This often includes: removing dead wood , attaching crown safety systems , possibly also shortening the crown or felling the tree, if other measures are not sensible or not justifiable. The tree control in the public green is carried out regularly by the green area offices of the municipalities, the road maintenance authorities or external and specially trained tree inspectors.

In Germany, the state of the art is presented in the FLL's 2010 Tree Control Directive .
