origin

The Zurich entrepreneur Ernst Göhner laid the foundation stone for today's Bauwerk Parkett AG in 1935 with a patent for a "flooring or wall covering made from pieces of wood": mosaic parquet. Bauwerk Parkett began with industrial parquet production. The parquet was exported worldwide from 1952 onwards. In 1975 Bauwerk Parkett developed the first 2-layer prefabricated parquet. The company quickly became the largest parquet manufacturer in Switzerland. In 1954 a location was established in Austria and in 1987 in Germany. In 1984 the 1,000,000th square meter of parquet rolled off the assembly line. In the period that followed, the company expanded. It not only developed and sold parquet, but also the machines for the production of parquet all over the world.

The company's external image was changed in the 2010s. The originally technical and production-oriented company became a market-oriented company, which deals with topics such as healthy living, sustainability and design. More than 60 percent of Bauwerk products are manufactured in St. Margrethen, Switzerland. In the 1990s sawmills in Jassenskoje , Russia and Kietaviškės , Lithuania were taken over. The Bauwerk Boen Group opened a plant in Kietaviskes in Lithuania in 2014 and a plant in Đurđevac in Croatia in 2017 .
