Bavarian Nordic is a Danish-German company that specializes in the manufacture of vaccines .

Bavarian Nordic has its headquarters and production site in Kvistgård, Denmark, but also has research branches in other countries, such as Martinsried near Munich and the USA, and has over 420 employees (as of 3/2015). Bavarian Nordic was founded in 1994 and is listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. At the turn of the year 2002/2003, under the impression of the impending war in Iraq , the company received an order from the German state to provide more than one dose of smallpox vaccine for every resident of Germany in order to be able to vaccinate the population in the event of a terrorist attack . Vaccines against Japanese encephalitis and dengue fever as well as against HIV (based on an attenuated smallpox virus into which surface antigens from HIV have been incorporated; phase 1 clinical study ) are still being developed.

In 2014 the company had a turnover of 1.22 billion Danish kroner with 420 employees .
