Bay United FC is a South African football club based in Port Elizabeth . The club plays in the National First Division .
The club was founded in 2006 as the successor to Maritzburg United with the support of Volkswagen South Africa , but today both football clubs exist again after Sipho Pityana took over the club in 2007. After that, the club was able to qualify for the Premier League Soccer in 2008, but rose immediately from bottom of the table. Since then, the club has not been able to regain promotion and sponsors from Port Elizabeth have largely stayed away. That's why Pitanya's company Izingwe Holdings declared in March 2010 that it wanted to sell the club, but so far no buyer has been found.
