The Bayanosee ( Spanish lago Bayano ) is a reservoir in the eastern part of the province of Panama in Panama . It was dammed in 1976 when the Bayano Dam was being built. It is the second largest lake in Panama and is only surpassed by the Gatunsee . The lake was named after Bayano , the leader of the largest slave rebellion in Panama in the 16th century. Its tributary is the Río Bayano , and the outflow is the Río Chepo , these two rivers were one river before the damming and were only separated by the damming. To the south of the lake are the Bayano caves .
