Bavarian Academy Rural Areas

The Bavarian Academy for Rural Areas is a non-profit association with the purpose of representing the interests of rural areas . The association was founded in 1988 and is based in Munich .

Purpose is

"The promotion of investigations, functional research, findings and information about rural areas with the aim of improving the living and working conditions in rural areas."

The academy sees itself as an expert forum and think tank with currently almost 300 appointed members. They include personalities from politics and society as ordinary members and sustaining members (e.g. cities, municipalities and districts).

Honorary members include the former Bavarian Agriculture Minister Hans Maurer , the former President of the State Parliament Alois Glück , Ministerialdirigent ret. D. Günther Strößner and Professor Elmar Zepf .

The current president is Holger Magel , former professor of land management and land development at the Technical University of Munich .
