The Bavarian League Cup should be a tournament within the 2019-21 season of the Regionalliga Bayern . The competition is scheduled to open on September 5, 2020 and end with the final on April 13, 2021. The background to this is the COVID-19 pandemic , as a result of which the 2019–21 season was extended to 2021 and the remaining games still to be played would not allow regular play until spring 2021.

The winner receives a starting place for the DFB-Pokal 2021/22 .

mode

The 17 participants for the remaining 2019–21 season were divided into two groups of four and three groups of three, taking regional proximity into account. Each group is played against each other with back and forth games to determine the 12 best teams that will advance to the final round.

The five worst teams, on the other hand, will take part in a "consolation round", the winner of which will start in the quarter-finals of the 2021/22 national cup . In addition to this winner, the two eliminated semi-finalists and the team that lost the league cup final will also compete in the quarter-finals of the Bavarian Cup.

In the final round of the League Cup, the 12 participants are divided into three groups of four, after which each group completes an easy round. The three fourth-placed and the worst third-placed play a play-off for the semi-finals of the consolation round, the better-placed teams complete the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the league cup final in knockout mode.
