Today the tower has a height of 40 meters, according to another source 39 meters, and has a Roman roof with slate cladding. On the western wall of the tower there is a mighty sandstone bay, from which the yellow-red flag with the Lohr city coat of arms wafts.

The earlier access was about four meters high and could only be reached via a battlement . Today you can go up 140 steps from Turmstraße to the tower's apartment on the top of the six floors. Below is the former goat barn.

history

The Bayersturm was built in the 14th century, between around 1330 and 1385.

Renovations after 1550 gave it two additional floors and thus a height of "140 Schuh". So it got about five meters higher. The originally pointed roof with all around was replaced by a rounded, baroque hood. This is already 1648 on a Merian - stitch displayed. The tower survived the general demolition measures of the city fortifications in the 19th century because it stood next to the city gate and therefore did not interfere. After the gate was removed in 1819, a new, ground-level entrance was built into the tower wall. The tower's rooms were inhabited until 1939.

The Baiersturmverein eV was founded in 1975 in order to finance necessary renovations . He organized the Baiersturmfest , the proceeds of which went to the project: in 1979 a new staircase was built. Since then, the tower has been accessible again for tours, which today take you to the Türmerstube as part of guided tours, from which you can enjoy a good view of the Main, Lohr and the Spessart. Further funds were used for the interior decoration. That is why weddings have been possible in the Türmerstube since mid-2005. A tower warden is employed to look after the tower.
