The Bayonet-Knife M6 (knife bayonet) was used with the Rifle 7.62 mm M14 . The bayonet sheath "M10" belongs to the bayonet .

With the M6, in contrast to its predecessor, the M5, a more handy bayonet was developed that could also be used as a combat knife .

history

The bayonet was presented in 1957 together with the M14 . It forms the development link between the bayonets of the M1 Garand , M5 and the bayonet for the M16 rifle, the M7 .

The M6 ​​bayonet was used until the M16 (and therefore the M7) was introduced in 1974 in the Vietnam War . Today the M6 ​​is only used for ceremonial purposes and for demonstration exercises on the M14.

The Bayonet M6 was prepared by the retaining hook on the M10 hole coupling supported and fixed with the aid of a likewise attached to the M10 leg on the thigh belt.

Another possibility was to attach the Bayonet M6 to the side of the bag of the storm bag with the help of the M10 and to fix it with a strap on the bag.

The Bayonet M6 is 29.21 cm long and has a blade length of 17.15 cm. It consists of a blade with a continuous tang , a guard with a hole for attachment to the flash hider of the M14 rifle and a pawl to lock the bayonet on the bayonet mount of the rifle.

The M10 bayonet sheath is made of plastic and has a metal spring clip inside to fix the bayonet in the sheath. On the upper part there is the steel fastening hook and a fabric strap with a push button for fastening the bayonet handle. At the bottom there is a hole for attaching the leg strap.
