Bazart
Bazart is a Flemish indie pop band from Ghent . With the song Goud they had one of the greatest Dutch-speaking successes in Belgium in 2016.
Band history
Bazart was founded in 2012 by singer Mathieu Terryn and guitarist Simon Nuytten. Other members were Tom Goovaerts on bass guitar, Robbe Vekeman on drums and keyboardist Oliver Symons. In the same year they released an EP called Meer dan ooit . They also performed abroad with their Dutch-language pop music. The final band formation was completed by Daan Schepers instead of Goovaerts as bassist. The five musicians made their breakthrough with the second EP named after the band, Bazart . With the song Tunnels they first attracted more attention and the second song release Goud brought them into the charts for the first time in spring 2016. The song stayed at number 12, but stayed in the Flemish charts for 50 weeks . This made it the most successful Dutch-language song in the Vlaamse Ultratop 50. It also achieved platinum status .
In the same year they released their first album Echo . It entered the charts at number 1 , something that no Belgian artist had ever achieved with the debut album. It was also awarded platinum. The album also made it into the charts in the Netherlands and the French-speaking regions of Belgium. Another hit single from the album was Chaos , which made it to number 8 and went gold. At the Flemish Music Industry Awards 2016, Bazart were the most successful performers with five awards and won two main prizes for best band and for Goud as hit of the year.
The Flemings released their next album 2 in autumn 2018. It also rose to number 1 in the charts. With the pre- single Grip (Omarm me) they had come back to number 8 in the single charts.
