The Bazu Band ( Hindi for bracelet ), also Baju Band or Dastana , is arm armor from India. A Persian counterpart is known as the pikemen's glove .

description

Tubular armguard

The Bazu Band are made of steel . They are made in such a way that the armor covers the forearm on the upper side from the wrist up to and including the elbow. There are different designs, from very simply processed to with gold inlays and artistic engravings or etched and painted motifs.

They are almost always worn as a pair.

There are two basic versions, one in the shape of a half-tube and a rarer one made of connected rails.

Half-tube

It is attached using leather cords or a flap that encloses the wrist. On the underside, which rests on the arm, there is usually a chain armor fabric attached, which is connected to the chain glove and is often covered with fabric.

Rail elements

Arm protection made from rail elements

As a rule, five individual plates are connected to one another by chain mesh . The longest plate covers the top of the forearm, two plates protect the sides of the forearm, and two plates protect the bottom of the forearm. When put on, the armor is closed on the underside with leather straps or bolts. In other versions, instead of the chain mesh, hinges are attached between the plates, which connect them together. The plates are made so that they fit tightly on the arm. Often smaller plates are attached below the large plates to provide additional protection for the wrist.
