history

The Beach Unicorns were created in 2017 on the initiative of Stephanie Geffert as a player and Dennis Glaser as trainer and team manager. The idea of bringing a team to the same level in beach handball arose from the observations made during the 2016 German Championship . Since a lot of beach handball was played as a popular sport in Hanover, the aim was to bundle the forces in the female area of beach handball in the Hanover area. In the following, therefore, players from the environment of the founding members were addressed and a team was formed. A first training session took place on April 29, 2017.

In the first season of 2017, the goal of qualifying for the German Championship of the German Handball Federation was achieved with a 6th place in the German Beach Open ranking list. At the finals, the Beach Unicorns took 9th place shared by 10 teams.

In the second season of 2018, the group won the German championship. However, the Unicorns lost the quarter-finals just like all other group winners and were subsequently 5th.

In the 2019 season, which was the third season of the Beach Unicorns, they finished second in the preliminary round, but won their quarter-finals against the Beach Chiller and their semi-finals against the Caipiranhas from Erlangen in the shoot-out. In the final they lost to the German champion Strandgeflüster Minden and became German runner-up. In addition to the German champions, the Beach Unicorns also qualified for the EHF Beach Handball Champions Cup in Sicily from October 24th to 27th, 2019.

At the beginning of summer 2019, the Beach Unicorns became members of MTV Herrenhausen, founded in 1893 eV in Hanover, on whose beach sports facility at the Großer Garten they have been training since it was founded.
