Beagle Aircraft Limited was a British manufacturer of light propeller aircraft with plants in Rearsby ( Leicestershire ) and Shoreham-by-Sea ( Sussex ).
history
The company was founded in 1960 by merging the aircraft design office of the Pressed Steel Company with the aircraft manufacturers Auster Aircraft Company in Rearsby and FG Miles Limited in Shoreham to form British Executive & General Aviation Limited , BEAGLE for short.
In the beginning, the three parts of the company operated independently of each other, with the two manufacturing plants being run as Beagle-Auster Limited and Beagle-Miles Limited. It was not until 1962 that they jointly formed the Beagle Aircraft Limited .
When Pressed Steel became part of the British Motor Corporation , the company withdrew from aircraft construction. On December 12, 1966, Beagle was sold to the state for one million pounds sterling, but was placed under receivership in 1969 due to ongoing financial problems. Since no buyer could be found for the ailing company, it was dissolved in 1970.
