The Beagle B.121 Pup ("young dog") is a light, single-engine propeller plane made by the British manufacturer Beagle Aircraft in the 1960s. It was offered as a two-seat aerobatic aircraft or as a four-seat transport aircraft.

history

The Pup is a single-engine, all - metal aircraft designed as a low-wing aircraft with a rigid tricycle landing gear. The planned Miles M-117 aircraft served as the basis, but was to be made largely of plastic. The prototype of the B.121 Series 1 or "Pup 100" made its maiden flight on April 8, 1967. The drive consisted of a Rolls-Royce Continental O-200A piston engine with 100 hp, from which the unofficial name was derived. In addition to two front seats, the Series 1 received two child seats in the rear area.

The next two prototypes received an enlarged tail unit and a 150 hp Lycoming 0-320-A2B engine and were called Series 2 or "Pup 150". One of the child seats was replaced by an adult seat.

On April 12, 1968 Beagle delivered the first machine to the Shoreham flight school. Numerous other copies were sold to flying clubs and private users worldwide. The Series 3 or "Pup 160" with a Lycoming 0-360-A drive was developed for civil pilot training in Iran and only produced in small numbers. In 1969 the total production had increased to one machine per day.

In December 1969, the UK government ended financial support for the company and placed it under administration. In 1970 Beagle Aircraft was dissolved and production ended despite 276 open orders. 21 almost completed aircraft could still be completed later. A total of 66 Series 1, 98 Series 2 and nine Series 3 were created.

The Beagle B.125 Bulldog was created as a military version of the Pup . Only the prototype came from Beagle. Series production was carried out by Scottish Aviation .
