The Scottish Aviation Bulldog is a two- to three-seat trainer aircraft developed by Beagle Aircraft and built by Scottish Aviation .
history
The Bulldog made its maiden flight on May 19, 1969 . The prototype was still called Beagle B.125 Bulldog . The first customer was the Swedish armed forces with 78 orders. The collapse of Beagle Aircraft initially prevented delivery. Scottish Aviation then took over the order and produced the aircraft in its own main plant in Prestwick . A total of 320 copies were built, most of them for the Royal Air Force .
construction
The Bulldog, which was developed on the basis of the Beagle Pup , is a training aircraft in which student pilots and instructors can sit next to each other. It is constructed in all-metal construction and designed as a low-wing aircraft. The aircraft has a rigid tripod landing gear and is powered by a Lycoming 360A1B6 boxer engine.
use
The first 58 aircraft were delivered to the Swedish Air Force as the SK 61A and SK 61B in 1971 . 20 other models went to the Swedish army in 1972 as the FPL 61C . These aircraft were given to the Air Force in 1989 as the SK 61C . After their retirement in 2001, some of the aircraft were sold to Hungary.
The largest customer was the Royal Air Force , which put over 130 Bulldog T1 into service in 1972 . In 2001 the last remaining machines were sold.
