The Beatles Revival Band is a German cover band that plays the songs of the British band The Beatles and has existed since 1976.

history

In 1976 the four Frankfurt amateur musicians called Robby Matthes ( bass and vocals , in the role of Paul McCartney ), Klaus Larisch ( lead guitar and vocals, in the role of George Harrison ), Richard Kersten ( rhythm guitar and vocals, in the role by John Lennon ), Christian Engel ( drums and vocals, in the role of Ringo Starr ) brought the Beatles Revival Band to life. The project almost didn't materialize because the Beatles' former record company wanted to ban the use of the name.

However, the press celebrated the group as a sensation, and after a successful appearance in the Frankfurt Sinkkasten on March 1, 1976, they became a professional German cover band. The band not only sang the Beatles classics in English, but also translated the songs into German. Tours took her to Milan, the GDR, Hungary and England. The group has also performed with symphony orchestras, such as the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1986 and the Munich Symphonic Sound Orchestra in 2004 . The band also had various television appearances, including in 1977 on the show disco .

The Beatles Revival Band released 25 albums and gave over 3000 concerts. In the early 1980s, two founding members left the band. Richard Kersten was replaced in 1980 by Gregor Ziegler, who died in 2007 after a serious illness. Tommy Lohr came in 1981 for Klaus Larisch. The band then played keyboards with Robby Matthes (Paul McCartney), Claus Fischer (since 1983 / George Harrison), Glen Turner (since 2001 / John Lennon), Christian Engel (Ringo Starr) and Fritz Heieck until 2012.

In April 2009 the band worked with the radio presenter Volker Rebell and presented the musically supported comedy story The Beatles and Beate .

Christian Engel (* April 22, 1950) died on July 14, 2012 after a long illness and Robby Matthes died in June 2018.

The group has gradually filled the positions since 2012 and is currently still on tour after more than 40 years.

The current line-up of the group is Oliver Bick (Paul McCartney), Claus Fischer (George Harrison), Christopher Tucker (John Lennon) and Thomas Wimmer (Ringo Starr). Fritz Heieck is the fifth man to provide orchestral keyboard support.
