Beatrix von Limburg († July 12 after 1164, mentioned in 1165) was a countess from the House of Limburg and by marriage Countess von Laurenburg, who probably acted for a time as regent of the County of Laurenburg for her grandchildren, who later became Counts of Nassau .

Life

Nassau Castle

Beatrix was a daughter of Duke Walram III. the heath of Lower Lorraine-Limburg and Jutta von Geldern, daughter of Count Gerhard I. von Geldern . Her ancestry is confirmed by the deed of 1151, according to which Henry II of Leez , Bishop of Liège , confirmed the donations from 'domina Jutta, nobilissima matrona uxor ducis Walrami de Lemburg' to the Rolduc Abbey , and which confirmed their presence at their funeral documented in Rolduc by 'Arnoldus quoque filius Ruberti comitis de Lunneburg natus ex domina Beatrice filia præfatæ dominæ' .

Hillin von Falmagne, the archbishop of Trier, noted in a document dated April 1, 1158 that 'castrum de Nassouwe' previously belonged to the church of Worms, but that 'Ruberti et Arnoldi de Luremburg' had built a castle ( Nassau Castle ) against the will of the Church and the 'postmodum… Beatrix comitissa et coheredes eius… filii Ruberti et Arnoldi de Luremburg' requested the settlement of the dispute mediated by 'Gerlaci de Isemburch et Everhardi de Burgensheim' . This document suggests that Beatrix survived both sons and acted as head of the family on behalf of their grandchildren.

progeny

Beatrix married before 1135, possibly around 1125 with Count Ruprecht I von Laurenburg († before May 13, 1154). With him she had the children:

  1. Arnold II († 1158/1159), mentioned as Count von Laurenburg 1151–1158.
  2. Ruprecht II († around 1159), mentioned as Count von Laurenburg 1154–1158.

In a document from the year 1148 a certain Gerhard von Laurenburg is mentioned, who was possibly a younger son of Ruprecht I, but whose relationship is not clear from any document. No marriage is mentioned for this Gerhard.
