Beatriz González
Beatriz González (born November 16, 1938 in Bucaramanga ) is a Colombian painter .
life and work
González grew up in Colombia during the time of La Violencia . In 1962 she completed a degree in painting and art history with Marta Traba at the Universidad de los Andes and then studied printing technology at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam .
With “Los Suicidas Del Sisga / The Suicides of Sisga” (1965) Beatriz González made her artistic breakthrough. For this early work, she took a photo as a basis that shows a couple who were photographed shortly before they committed suicide. Beatriz González deals thematically with the conflicts in Colombia, sham democracy, corruption and the drug war. She fixed her gaze on the marginal, profane and provincial.
