Bechert (sculptor family)

Bechert is the name of a Silesian family of sculptors who worked in Schweidnitz and Hirschberg from 1660 to 1755 .

Franz Ferdinand Bechert was born around 1660. From around 1686 he can be verified as a master craftsman in Schweidnitz, later he moved to Hirschberg. There he died at the age of 67 and was buried on September 3, 1772.

His son Joseph Anton Bechert was baptized on September 8, 1691 in Schweidnitz. He worked mainly in Hirschberg. In 1722 he created an almost life-size statue of the Bohemian national saint Nepomuk made of painted wood for the Catholic Church in Maiwaldau . He was buried on December 5, 1750 in Hirschberg.

Anton Leopold Bechert, son of Joseph Anton Bechert, also worked in Hirschberg. In 1752 he became a master. Three years later he designed the glory in the form of a sun for the altar of the Buchwald prayer house church .
