Beckii Cruel , actually Rebecca Flint (born June 5, 1995 ), is a British student who became known as a dancer and singer in Japan via the Internet.

biography

Rebecca Flint is from the Isle of Man and is the daughter of a dance teacher. At the age of eleven she came across the Japanese girl manga series Fruits Basket and from then on became interested in manga and Japanese anime . Finally, she started her own gig on YouTube in 2007 , where she dressed like the manga characters and performed dances to Japanese pop music ( J-pop ).

They became known in Japan and their videos soon hit six-digit views. The popular Japanese internet portal Nico Nico Douga also increased its popularity. Her popularity is due to the fact that she comes very close to the manga characters in terms of clothing and appearance.

Finally, in the summer of 2009, the big Japanese label Tokuma decided to take up the internet phenomenon and market it as Beckii Cruel. In October 2009 she performed for the first time in Japan, with the 14-year-old two other older dancers, Sarah Cruel from France and Gemma Cruel from Great Britain, who trade as Cruel Angels . A DVD was released in December and reached number 8 on the DVD charts. In February 2010 the official debut single of the Cruel Angels "Tsubasa wo Kudasai" was released, which stayed in the Japanese charts for two weeks and reached number 84.

In 2013 Flint collaborated with the British band Area 11 for their song Shi No Barado on the album All the Lights in the Sky .
