Fruits Basket ( Japaneseフ ル ー ツ バ ス ケ ッ トfurūtsu basuketto , fruit basket ) is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Natsuki Takaya , which was also implemented as an anime series. It can be assigned to the Shōjo genre.
action
Toru Honda is an orphan. When she has to leave her grandfather's house for a while, the student stands on the street. She pitched a tent that would later serve as her home. One morning, on the way from her tent to school, she passes the Soma family home. The meeting with a child of the Soma family, Yuki Soma (rat), is pure coincidence, because he goes to the same school as her. In the evening on the way home, Yuki notices Toru's plight. But Toru does not think about asking for help. First a landslide that destroyed her tent and the request of the two Somas in the house bring her into the house. But the peace doesn't last long. When Kyo, another offspring of the Soma family, also comes into the house to settle accounts with his archenemy Yuki, Toru discovers the secret of the Soma family. When members of the Soma family are hugged by members of the opposite sex or are quite weakened, they transform into one of the twelve Eto . Whereby hugs from members of the twelve, regardless of gender, do not lead to any transformations. These transformations usually cancel on their own after a while.
Despite the knowledge of the secret of the Soma clan, she is allowed to continue living there. Little by little she gets to know more and more members of the family and finds out more and more secrets. Because the curse seems to go beyond the metamorphosis: each of the cursed has his own secrets.
main characters
Toru Honda: She lost her father to an illness when she was three years old. Since then she has tried to imitate his way of speaking and is always overly polite. She keeps smiling and tries to see everything from the good side. She has two friends at school: Hanajima and Uotani. They both love her idolatrously. She gets along well with all members of the Somas and is very naive.
Yuki Soma: He's in Toru's class and the “prince” of your school. There he has his own fan club. He hadn't lived with Shigure very long when Toru joined them, before that he lived in Soma house. In the past he was almost always in a bad mood and never smiled. The memories of his childhood sometimes make him sink into self-pity. His brother Ayame, who is 10 years older than him, is also cursed; the two of them don't have a good relationship. He can't stand Kyo and argues with him all the time. He turns into a rat when hugged by the opposite sex.
Kyo Soma: He is obsessed with the cat and therefore not a member of the twelve. He tries everything to defeat Yuki, as if he can do that before graduating from high school, he will be accepted into the circle of twelve. He's very quick-tempered, but also very nice. He is turning into a cat. The cat has another shape that can only be prevented by a special bracelet, which the bearer of the cat's curse must always wear, as this shape is very dangerous.
