Hana-Kimi

Hana-Kimi ( Japanese 花 ざ か り の 君 た ち へ , Hanazakari no Kimitachi e ) is a manga series by Hisaya Nakajō . The comic, which is aimed primarily at young girls and can therefore be assigned to the Shōjo genre, was published from 1996 to 2004 in over 4,300 pages. The work can be classified into the genres of sport , romance and comedy .

Mizuki Ashiya is half-Japanese and lives in the United States. She is in love with the high jumper Izumi Sano, whom she knows from television. In order to get to know her great idol, she decides to go to his school, even though this is a boys' school. She moves to Japan and pretends to be a boy. When she comes to school, Sano dedicates herself to the high jump for the first time since an accident.

Although Sano finds out on the first day that she is a girl, he keeps it a secret. People keep mistaking Mizuki for a girl, but she can dispel this assumption every time. Even the school doctor hides her secret.

Over time, Sano also seems to develop feelings for Mizuki, but he does not show them. In contrast, Nakatsu Shuichi falls in love with Mizuki even though he thinks she is a boy. He wants to suppress his alleged homosexuality, but over time Mizuki confesses his love, which she does not reciprocate.

Publications

Hana-Kimi appeared in Japan from September 1996 to August 2004 chapter by chapter in the manga magazine Hana to Yume , in which Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket was also published at the same time . After the initial publication in the magazine, the individual chapters were also published in pocket book format by the Hakusensha publishing house; a total of 23 volumes appeared. The book publications sold over thirteen million copies in Japan. In 2010 the special volume After School followed with short stories about the series.

The manga has been translated into Chinese, Korean, English, French, German and Indonesian. In German-speaking countries, Carlsen Comics published all of the anthologies from December 2005 to July 2009. In November 2011, the Japanese special was published as Volume 24.

Under the title Huayang shaonian shaonu ( Chinese  花样 少年 少女 , Pinyin huāyàng shàonián shàonǚ ), a real television series with fifteen episodes based on the manga was created for Taiwanese television. This TV series, starring Wu Chun , Ella Chen and Jiro Wang , premiered on GTV and CTV TV channels from November 19, 2006 to March 4, 2007 . This broadcast was extremely successful. It had an average market share of about 39 percent on Taiwanese television and a maximum share of 50.9 percent.

The series was sold to Malaysia, South Korea and Japan.

There is also a Dorama adaptation with the subtitle Ikemen Paradise ( Japaneseケ メ ン ♂ パ ラ ダ イ ス) for the manga, which comprises a total of twelve episodes. It aired on Fuji TV from July 3, 2007 to September 18, 2007 . Maki Horikita and Shun Oguri play the roles of Mizuki Ashiya and Izumi Sano, Toma Ikuta the role of Shuichi Nakatsu. In 2008 a special was also broadcast, which takes place between episodes seven and eight.

As Areumdaun geude yege (아름다운 그대 에게, English: To the beautiful you ), the series will be broadcast on the Korean broadcaster SBS from August 2012. 16 episodes are planned with Choi Min-ho , Sulli and Lee Hyun-woo in the leading roles.
