Becontree (London Underground)

Becontree is an above-ground London Underground station in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 5 on Gale Street. In 2014, 3.40 million passengers used this station served by the District Line .

It was opened in 1926 by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway , at that time still under the provisional name of Gale Street Halt . From September 12, 1932, after the electrification of the line between Barking and Upminster , trains of the District Line also ran here. The railway has not stopped in Becontree since 1962, and the second platform has remained unused since then.
