As a Bed and Breakfast (also Bed 'n' Breakfast or short form B & B ) is referred to in the English-speaking countries accommodation in private homes, in their price one usually always hot breakfast is included. The B&B corresponds most closely to the accommodation category offered as private rooms in German-speaking countries . A guesthouse or private pension, on the other hand, usually operates under the term guest house in English-speaking countries , although breakfast is often not included in the room price in such "guest houses".

In addition, the term B&B in English-speaking countries, regardless of the type of accommodation, also describes the mode ( plan ) of overnight stays with breakfast - as opposed to overnight stays without breakfast, half board ( half board ) and full board ( full board ). In the sense of this usage, especially in the USA and South Africa, there are often small but commercially operated bed and breakfast inns or the like, some of which are of excellent quality and at high prices, only offer bed and breakfast and do not have a restaurant.

There are now so-called B&B offers all over the world. Often it is a hotel-like accommodation option in a private house, including breakfast that does not have to be warm. These private houses often only offer one to a few rooms.
