Bedd yr afanc

Bedd yr Afanc ( German  "Grave of Afanc" ), a water monster - is the only gallery grave in Wales . It is southeast of Brynberian in Pembrokeshire . The site, excavated in 1939, is located in the center of a U-shaped valley in the Preseli Mountains (Mynydd Preseli), on a low oval plateau surrounded by a swamp. Bedd yr Afanc dates from around 3500 BC. Chr.

Two parallel north-west-south-east oriented rows of stones in a low, oval earth or stone mound have been preserved. These are pairs of former bearing stones of the Ganges over half a meter high. This leads to a small, round chamber remnant in the west of the hill, which is formed from former bearing stones of a similar size. A total of 22 stones have been preserved, including no capstone.

Bedd yr Afanc is a Scheduled Monument .

In Welsh tales, Afanc was what looked like a giant beaver.
