Sarny fortified area

The fortified area of ​​Sarny (Polish: Sarneński Rejon Umocniony, Sarneński Odcinek Umocniony, also Bastion Polesie) was a Polish defense system.

The facility consisted of bunkers and trenches on both sides of the Sluch River , in the area of ​​the city of Sarny in the north of Volhynia in what is now Ukraine , formerly eastern Poland . In the interwar period, the area around Sarny belonged to the Second Polish Republic . Sarny was near what was then the border with the Soviet Union . Considering the Soviets as the main threat, the Polish military authorities began building fortifications in 1936. It was planned that the plant should be fully operational in the spring of 1940. The total length of the defenses was 170 kilometers, the number of objects built was 358.
