Authority initiative

The authority initiative is a legal term in Switzerland in the canton of Zurich . This political right can be exercised by the authorities .

method

With the authority initiative , an authority - in practice usually the executive of a municipality - requests an amendment to the cantonal constitution or a cantonal law or a new provision in the constitution or law. The authority initiative is treated like a parliamentary initiative , an individual initiative or a popular initiative if it is supported by at least 60 (out of a total of 180) members of the Cantonal Council . The authority initiative is based on Article 24 of the cantonal constitution of February 27, 2005.

purpose

The purpose of the authority initiative is to strengthen the municipalities, whose autonomy is very important in Switzerland's federal state system .
