from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guard me, God is by the Taizé Community written hymn .

text

God keep me, I trust you.
You show me the way to life.
With you is joy, joy in abundance!

The text has a biblical origin and comes from Psalm 16 :EU :

“A song of David. Protect me, God, because I was safe with you! "

Form and spread

The song is a four-part short chant characteristic of the Taizé community. The song is sung repeatedly in a meditative way ( ostinato ) unchanged.

There are a number of notations for instruments: keyboard , guitar , flute , oboe , oboe duo, clarinet , clarinet duo, and trumpet .

The song can be sung in German and in three other languages: Portuguese ( Tu és meu Deus, eu confio em ti ), Lithuanian ( Globok, Deve, mus ) and Swedish ( Bevara mig Gud ).

It can be found under number 147 in the current song book (as of 2018).

The song is subject to the copyright of Ateliers et Presses de Taizé , so it cannot be assigned to a composer known by name, but was written by the brothers from Taizé. This is the case with many newer Taizé songs.

The song can be found on several CD recordings from the Church of Reconciliation in Taizé: "Christe Lux Mundi" (June 20, 2006, in German), "Taizé - Instrumental 3" (July 1, 2010, instrumental), Velaré Contigo ( February 17, 2014, instrumental) as well as on two studio recordings: “Guard me, God. Songs Inspired by Taizé ”and“ Trust, Inspirations from Taize ”(December 19, 2008, in English).
