The Behrens shipyard in Harrien was founded in 1840 by Johann Dietrich Behrens and closed in 1887.

history

The Behrens shipyard arose from the in Harrien at Brake existing Lastadie Lorenz Dehls and traded from now as Behrens Shipyard. During this time around 20 sailing ships were built and mostly delivered to Bremen shipowners. In 1857, the son Gerhard Behrens took over the business and by 1875 built another 15 sailing ships for shipowners, mainly from Brake, Elsfleth and some for Bremen and Hamburg shipowners. Today the WSA Bremen building yard is located here .

Building program

In the period from 1840 to 1865 over 30 barges and brigs were built on the helgen of this shipyard. With 320 commercial loads and 673 register tons, the Bark O. Thyen , built in 1854, was one of the largest and best known. It was delivered to a partner shipping company based in Brake , which was represented by the correspondent owner Oltmann Thyen .
