The Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology is a specialist journal for the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology. It encompasses basic and applied research and covers aspects of chemistry, physics, biology as well as materials science and process engineering. The orientation of the journal also includes experimental and theoretical aspects as well as applications of nanotechnology.

It is designed using the open access process. All published articles are subject to a peer review process. Editor-in-chief is Thomas Schimmel from the Karlsruhe Institute of Nanotechnology. The advisory committee includes Nobel Prize winners Harold Kroto and Jean-Marie Lehn , and one of the co-editors is Wilhelm Barthlott , who discovered the lotus effect .

Scientific video films are available for individual articles in the journal.

The magazine is published by the Beilstein Institute , a non-profit foundation based in Frankfurt am Main.
