from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beki is a regional currency valid in the Luxembourg canton of Redingen . It was officially introduced on January 2, 2013.

Appearance

There are 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Beki notes. On the front there is a picture specially designed for each note by the Luxembourg artist Patricia Lippert . Advertisements from the participating companies are printed on the back.

General information

Exchange rate

A Beki has the equivalent of one euro .

validity

The Beki is not a legal tender. It is administered by the organization “De Kär asbl”. Companies can apply for membership and mark their branches with an appropriate sticker . The Beki is used in these companies in parallel to the euro. So it is like a voucher system . To make the Beki attractive, you get 3 additional Beki for 100 euros, which you exchange for Beki. If you exchange it back in euros, 5% of the value will be lost, 40% of which will be used to maintain and finance the Beki project and 60% will be donated. This system is intended to ensure that the capital that is in circulation in the form of Beki remains in the region for as long as possible, and thus the region's economy is strengthened. According to the official website, a Beki is passed on an average of 6 times before it is exchanged for euros.

etymology

"Beki" is derived from the name of the municipality Beckerich , which belongs to the canton of Redingen .
