education

requirements

The formal training requirement is an intermediate level qualification or a technical college entrance qualification . Technically, skill in sewing , in cutting fabrics and care in converting model cuts into production-ready cuts are expected. The training is suitable for people who are interested in fashion and have drawing skills as well as creativity and a sense of aesthetics. Organizational skills are also an advantage for the organization of work processes in the later professional field.

Duration, content, structure

The duration of the training is 2 or 3 years, depending on the requirements. The training takes place at vocational schools in which, in addition to the classrooms, laboratories, workshops and PC or CAD training rooms are available. Classes take place in class, supplemented by internships, project work and homework.

The content differs depending on the countries and schools. In the job-related area, for example, subjects such as materials science, process engineering, pattern design, costume science, product manufacturing and design technology can be part of the timetable. In addition, general school subjects are taught, such as German, English, mathematics, sports, social studies, economics and religion. Mostly it is possible to set priorities, such as fashion drawing or special techniques.

financing

Since it is a school education, no remuneration is paid. If the personal requirements are met, subsistence can be financed through student loans.

activity

The clothing technology assistant works at the interface between the design and manufacture of clothing or textile design in mostly industrial textile production. His tasks include determining the details of the cutting and sewing specifications as well as grading and converting the cuts for the various sizes. Both classic methods of manual drafts and the development of cuts and model production with the help of computer-aided design CAD can be used . He assists in the creation of collections and in the selection of materials.

Further qualification

After appropriate professional experience, advanced training is possible that qualifies for higher positions in the textile industry, for example in production management, process monitoring, quality assurance or customer service.

If the university entrance qualification or general university entrance qualification has also been achieved with the training , further qualifications are also possible through a (university) degree, for example in the field of fashion design, clothing technology or costume designer
