Bell MTS , formerly known as Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. (MTS), is a telecommunications company headquartered in Winnipeg , Manitoba , Canada . The company offers landline, internet and cellular services. It is the fourth largest telecommunications operator in Canada. Manitoba Telecom Services has over 6,500 employees.

history

On June 21, 1959, the emergency number 9-9-9 was set up in Winnipeg. Thus, Winnipeg was one of the first cities in North America to use this number. In late 1950, Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) moved into its first offices on Empress Street, near the Polo Park Shopping Center . In the 1970s, the company began selling telephones at the same time as AT&T and also offered the installation of an RJ11 telephone socket free of charge. In 1980 the company opened its first sales outlets in larger shopping centers. At the end of the 1980s, the company started with the first mobile communications networks. The company went public in 1996 (until 2017). In 1999 the company began offering DSL Internet connections. In 2001, a new headquarters were moved to 333 Main Street.

Locations

The MTS Long Distance Gateway is located in the JF Mills Building on Corydon Avenue, also known as Confusion Corner. Here, among other things, television signals are fed into the cable network and passed on to other transmission towers.
