Bellaria cinema
The Bellaria Kino is one of the oldest still existing cinemas in Vienna . It is located on Museumstrasse in the 7th district of Neubau directly behind the Volkstheater .
Surname
The name of the cinema comes from the now defunct Bellaria , after which the nearby Bellariastraße is named.
history
Founded in 1911 as the “Invalidendank-Kino”, the Bellaria Kino was dedicated to showing older films as early as the first big cinema deaths in the early 1960s . In 1927 the cinema had a capacity for 247 people and in 1943 for 247 people.
This tradition continues today: a different old film is shown every afternoon (mostly from the 1930s to the 1960s).
From the turn of the millennium, screenings of contemporary films were added. The fact that these are only supplied digitally by the distributors favored the switch from the old 35 mm film to a digital film projector .
At the beginning of December 2019 it was announced that the cinema would be closed. The last game day was December 19, 2019, further performances were scheduled for December 24, 2019. After the announcement, three interested parties signed up for the cinema.
