Wakmusic

Wakmusic has been a registered association with its seat in Graz since 2004 with almost 5,000 members. The promotion and support of bands and musicians is the focus of the activity.

history

“Wakmusic - Association for the Promotion of Young Bands” was founded in 2004 by HP Tafner, Hartmut Pollhammer and Hubert Hierzmann. The aim of the association was particularly the creation and maintenance of rehearsal rooms in the Graz area. The first rehearsal room was in the “Heizhaus” on the PPC area ( Lend ) and was to be expanded by three more rooms in cooperation with the management of the PPC (project pop culture) at the time. A change in management and a lack of further cooperation on the part of the new management led to a halt in expansion of the rehearsal rooms at the PPC area and to two further rehearsal rooms on the Grabengürtel and in 2006 to two rehearsal rooms in the "Rösselmühle" ( Gries ). In 2007, the collaboration on the PPC area was finally terminated, whereupon the rehearsal center "Ostbahnhof" was founded with 6 new rooms and the sound studio "SisiTopStudio" was added.

In 2010 the “club wakuum” concert venue at Hans-Sachs-Gasse 12 was opened. 2012–2014 the web radio “Substream” was run. In 2012 the platform "Styrian Bandsupport" was founded (magazine until 2013). In 2013 the Sunny Days festival was held for the first time as a club festival. In the same year, the “club wakuum” was relocated to Griesgasse 25 in autumn.

On September 22nd, 2016 the neighborhood festival "Grieskram" took place for the first time, an annual fixture in the art, culture and culinary scene in the Gries district.

In 2018 the branch association “wakmusic - branch association club wakuum” was founded.
