history

Historically the property was called Kirkhill . The religious reference reflects that the monks of Dunkeld Abbey received the land no later than 1501. Around this time a small fortification was built there. This was a simple three-story tower house , which formed the nucleus of Belmont Castle. It is integrated into today's structure. The property was owned by the Nairn of Dunsinane family until the 17th century . The mansion was built from 1752 and has been expanded several times over the centuries. Originally designed in Georgian style, it was revised in the first half of the 19th century in the Tudor Gothic style . The British Prime Minister Henry Campbell-Bannerman once lived in Belmont Castle, which is now a retirement home.
