Belur Math ( Bengali : বেলুড়মঠ , beluṛmaṭh ) is a Hindu monastery complex (Math) in the north of Haora , a neighboring city of Kolkata . It was established in 1899 as the seat of the Ramakrishna mission founded by Vivekananda two years earlier and is also the seat of the monastic order Ramakrishna Math.

The complex consists of a large prayer hall (main temple) with a Ramakrishna statue. The external appearance combines elements of a church as well as a mosque, the completely empty interior is used by many visitors for meditation purposes. There are also numerous small temples and shrines. On the site behind the main temple are the administrative buildings of the resident organizations and the monks' houses .

There is a permanent ferry service from Belur Math for something upriver on the other side of the swing arm Hugli located Dakshineshwar , the Kali Temple and Ramakrishna residence.
