Figure group

The Belvedere was originally built on an island. The floor plan is an oval, followed by four rectangles. The entrances are located on these small porches on the ground floor and columns (on the east and west sides) or pilasters (north and south sides) on the first floor . Balconies rest on the pillars on the second floor. A copper-clad dome closes off the building at the top. On this stand three gilded boys with a basket of flowers on their heads. They come from Karl Bobek (1925–1992) in free repetition of the original group by Johann Eckstein (1735–1817).

history

King Friedrich Wilhelm II used the pavilion for personal performances of chamber music works. This is also where the deceitful evocations of necromancy by the Order of the Gold and Rosicrucians took place, with which this secret society induced the future king to enter. After considerable destruction in the Second World War (1943), it was rebuilt from 1956 to 1960 using old engravings. However, the interior of the three halls, one above the other, was not reconstructed to match its original state. The Belvedere now houses an important porcelain collection on permanent loan from the State of Berlin - masterpieces from the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (KPM). The Belvedere was renovated in 2002/03. It is a listed building .
