Ben-Ghou-Bey

Ben-Ghou-Bey (born April 23, 1931 in La Verpillière , Isère as Léon Goubet , † December 20, 1990 in Paraguay ) was a French fakir and actor.

biography 

Born near Lyon , he became a fakir as a boy and roamed the world for more than 30 years, performing piercing crucifixions and living funeral tricks. In 1979, Wolfgang Larbig, a German doctor, became interested in him and wrote a book, Pain , which tells of his own trials with the fakir.

Ben-Ghou-Bey's life in Paraguay ended with a cerebral haemorrhage.

Records

Ben-Ghou-Bey holds the world record in these feats:

  • 4 days with the nailed tongue
  • He was crucified 700 times in the course of his life, for which he received a “world champion title” from a fakir association on March 30, 1964.
  • In 1963 he was buried in Nice for half an hour.

The journalist and writer Jean-Luc Coatalem took Ben-Ghou-Bey as a model for his book Fakirssohn

His son Jean-Luc Goubet wrote two books about him:

  • Ben-Ghou-Bey. Mon père, ce fakir . ("Ben-Ghou-Bey, my father, this fakir.")
  • Le Secret d'un fakir, Ben-Ghou-Bey l'homme . ("One factories secret, Ben-Ghou-Bey, the man.")
