Eddie Peng
Eddie Yu-yen Peng ( Chinese 彭于晏 , Pinyin Péng Yúyàn , W.-G. P'eng Yü-yen ; born March 24, 1982 in Penghu County ) is a Taiwanese - Canadian actor , singer and model . He has dual citizenship of Taiwan and Canada.
Career
2002–2008: beginnings
Peng moved to Vancouver at the age of 13 . In 2000 he graduated from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School and began studying economics at the University of British Columbia , which he broke off prematurely in favor of his acting career. He started this with a role in the series The White Paper of Love (2002) by Yang Daqing , for which he was cast while on vacation in Taiwan. The series is based on the Japanese manga series Asunaro Hakusho by Fumi Saimon.
In 2003 he got a leading role in the series Scent of Love . In When Dolphin Met Cat , he played an autistic teenager in 2005 . Before filming, Peng spent a month preparing to deal with dolphins . In the same year he appeared in the popular Chinese series Chinese Paladin , which earned him increased attention in mainland China . At the same time, the actor made his debut in the cinema; He had his first significant role in Exit No.6 (2006) by Yu-Hsien Lin. Since then he has increasingly turned to the film business. In 2007, Peng was nominated for Best New Actor at the Golden Horse Film Festival for My DNA Says I Love You .
2009–2010: litigation
In 2009, Peng was involved in a legal battle with his former manager, which meant a career turnaround. Still, he played in the film Hear Me of Fen-Fen Cheng a leading role. The film was released in connection with the Summer Deaflympics 2009 and was the best-grossing film from Taiwanese production. After successfully settling the legal dispute in 2010, he released his first EP, It Has to Be You, as a singer with Avex . In the same year he played the lead role in Close to You . He trained for three months to portray a boxer. He was nominated for the role of Best Actor at the second Macau International Movie Festival.
2011–2013: Growing popularity
Peng finally had his breakthrough in 2011 in the youth film Jump Ashin! by Yu-Hsien Lin , for which he again undertook intensive training. The film received critical and audiences alike , earning Peng nominations for best actor at the 48th Golden Horse Film Festival and the 13th Taipei Film Festival , which marked a huge boost to his career. He then played in a variety of different roles, such as in the romance films Love You You and Love, the thriller Cold War , and the kung fu comedies Tai Chi 0 and Tai Chi Hero .
In 2013, Peng starred in the action film Unbeatable , which was the most successful self-produced film in Hong Kong and also received positive reviews. Peng was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards and the 50th Golden Horse Film Festival. That same year he starred in the romantic comedy A Wedding Invitation with Bai Baihe in front of the camera. The film grossed almost 200 million yuan in China, which was the highest grossing result for a Chinese- South Korean co-production.
2014 – today: further successes
In 2014, Peng got the role of Wong Fei Hung in the movie Rise of the Legend . For this, too, the actor went through intensive kung fu training. At the 34th Hong Kong Film Awards he was again nominated for best actor. In the same year he also starred in the series Sound of the Desert and the film Fleet of Time , both of which were very successful. Both Peng's television and film careers reached new heights.
In 2015, Peng played the lead role of a cyclist in the sports film To the Fore , which was selected as Hong Kong's entry for the 2016 Academy Awards . The actor was also selected as the first Chinese Ambassador of Goodwill for the 2015 Tour de France because of his role . At the side of Shu Qi he was also seen in the romance film The Last Women Standing .
In 2016, Peng had another great success with Operation Mekong ; he played an undercover agent alongside Zhang Hanyu . The film, which is based on real life, received good reviews and became one of the most successful films of all time in China. Peng had other film roles this year in the romance film Run for Love (with Zhang Ziyi ), in the thriller Cold War 2 , in the war film Call of Heroes and in Zhang Yimou's fantasy film The Great Wall .
With a leading role in Han Hans film Duckweed, together with Deng Chao and Zanilia Zhao , he was able to celebrate success with critics and audiences. This was followed by a role in Our Time Will Come by Ann Hui , the director's most successful film to date. He also played the title character Sun Wukong in the fantasy film Wu Kong .
