He started this with a role in the series  The White Paper of Love  (2002) by Yang Daqing , for which he was cast while on vacation in Taiwan. The series is based on the Japanese manga series  Asunaro Hakusho  by Fumi Saimon.

In 2003 he got a leading role in the series  Scent of Love . In  When Dolphin Met Cat  , he played an autistic teenager in 2005 . Before filming, Peng spent a month preparing to deal with dolphins . The film was released in connection with the Summer Deaflympics 2009  and was the best-grossing film from Taiwanese production. After successfully settling the legal dispute in 2010, he released  his first EP, It Has to Be You, as a singer with  Avex . In the same year he played the lead role in  Close to You . He trained for three months to portray a boxer. He was nominated for the role of Best Actor at the second Macau International Movie Festival.

2011–2013: Growing popularity

Peng finally had his breakthrough in 2011 in the youth film  Jump Ashin!  by Yu-Hsien Lin , for which he again undertook intensive training. The film received critical and audiences alike  , earning Peng nominations for best actor at the 48th Golden Horse Film Festival and the 13th  Taipei Film Festival , which marked a huge boost to his career. He then played in a variety of different roles, such as in the romance films  Love You You  and Love,  the thriller  Cold War ,  and the kung fu comedies  Tai Chi 0  and Tai Chi Hero .

In 2013, Peng starred in the action film  Unbeatable , which was the most successful self-produced film in Hong Kong and also received positive reviews. Peng was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 33rd  Hong Kong Film Awards and the 50th Golden Horse Film Festival. That same year he starred in the romantic comedy  A Wedding Invitation with  Bai Baihe in  front of the camera. At the side of  Shu Qi he was also seen in the romance film  The Last Women Standing  .
