Ben Dschawad , Arabic بن جواد Bin Ğawād, is a city in the municipality of Surt in Libya with around 10,000 inhabitants (as of March 2011). It is located on the Mediterranean between Benghazi in the east and Misrata in the west. The closest localities are An-Nawfaliyah about 20 km west and As-Sidr about 30 km southeast of Ben Javad.

history

During the civil war in Libya in 2011 , fierce fighting broke out in Ben Jawad. The city is said to have come under the control of government forces on March 7th. According to agency reports, it was recaptured on March 27, 2011 by the rebels who they had to give up again on March 30.

In early March 2012, a mass grave with 163 bodies was discovered in Ben Jawad. They were probably victims of the civil war.
