Benacus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benacus was a local Celtic deity of northern Italy . His dedicatory inscription was found on the shores of Lake Garda , which is why it can be assumed that this god was the namesake of the lake (Latin name: Lacus benacus ).

He is known as the father of Mincius , the river that runs through Lake Garda. In Gallo-Roman times he was associated with Neptunus .
