The Mincio is a river in Upper Italy . It has three source rivers, the Sarca di Genova and the Sarca di Nambrone, arise in the Presanella group in the province of Trento and merge at Pinzolo with the Sarca di Campiglio from Madonna di Campiglio ( Valle di Campiglio ) to the Fiume Sarca ( Val Rendena ) as part of it of the Judiciary . This now flows under the name Sarca through the Valle dei Laghi and finally into Lake Garda at Torbole . It leaves Lake Garda as a navigable river under the name Mincio , flows through from Peschiera del Garda to Goito hill country and, after it has formed the water surface of Mantua , flows left into the Po at Governolo . Its length is as Sarca, that is from the source to the mouth in Lake Garda , 78 km and as Mincio, that is from the outflow from Lake Garda at Peschiera del Garda to Governolo, 75 km.
The water-rich river forms a defensive line given by nature, reinforced by the Adige line, which is why the famous fortress square of the Austrians (Peschiera-Mantua-Verona-Legnago) and numerous battles ( Castiglione 1796, Goito and Governolo 1848, Solferino and San Martino 1859) were established here , Custozza (1848) and Custozza (1866) ) were beaten. At that time Austria coined the slogan "Germany will be defended on the Mincio".
The river Sarca flows through the small town of Arco and is a very attractive seaside resort there, especially the Sarca bridge and the dam on the Sarca are very popular.
