Benedetto Luti
Benedetto Luti (born November 17, 1666 in Florence , † June 17, 1724 in Rome ) was an Italian painter .
Life
Luti moved from Florence to Rome in 1691, where he was received by the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III. de 'Medici , an enthusiastic admirer of pastel portraits. Luti was one of the first to use pastel painting not only for preliminary studies of paintings or frescoes, but also to create portraits in them. He also painted oil paintings and frescoes, for example in the Basilica di San Giovanni in Lateran . Luti was also a successful art dealer and had a famous painting and drawing school, where he painters and architects such as Giovanni Domenico Piastrini (1678-1740), Giovanni Paolo Panini , Jean-Baptiste van Loo and his brother Charles-André van Loo to his students counted.
