Selin Benjamin Bocio Richardson (born April 27, 1996 in Santo Domingo ), better known as Benjamin Bocio , is a Dominican social entrepreneur , dentist and activist known for providing access to health care to low-income communities in the Dominican Republic .

Life

Bocio graduated from high school, studied dentistry and received his PhD from the Ibero-American University (UNIBE) of Santo Domingo .

He is committed to fighting poverty. When he was 14 years old that caused the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 a lack of health resources in the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic . After the earthquake, Bocio and his father decided to set up the non-profit Fundación Medica Bocio (FUMEBO), which is dedicated to providing health resources to low-income communities in the Dominican Republic, particularly in the southern, impoverished region of the country.

To date, the foundation has cared for more than 70,000 patients without quality access to primary health services, medicines and vital resources in the poorest communities in the Dominican Republic. The foundation has an alliance with one of the country's most important hospitals.

Bocio is the youth ambassador of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus , with whom he travels together and works for social justice, especially in health care.

Awards and honors

In 2019, Bocio represented the Dominican Republic in London at the most important summit for young leaders in the world, One Young World . At the summit, he was the only Latin American chosen as a delegate speaker.

Bocio received the National Voluntary Solidarity Award from the Dominican government . He was also named one of the 50 emerging leaders of the Moroccan Policy Center For The New South under the auspices of King Mohammed VI. viewed.
