Rudolf Friedrich Steinfels (born September 17, 1808 in Zurich ; † November 20, 1872 ibid) was the founder of the Steinfels soap factory and the Steinfels perfumery in Zurich in 1834.

Steinfeld was born the son of a Zurich butcher who also ran a tallow smelter . In 1834 he founded an artisanal candle and soap factory at Hirschengraben in Zurich . In 1849 he bought another soap factory in Mulhouse . Soaps, perfumes and cosmetics were produced. In 1860 his son Friedrich Steinfels (1837–1898), who had been trained in Marseille, joined the company as a partner and expanded production to include textile and industrial soap.

Steinfels had the rank of major in the infantry in the Swiss Army .
