Benjamin Rath

Benjamin Rath (born August 6, 1994 ; † March 19, 2017 ) was an Austrian karateka and European champion in Gōjū-Ryū .

Life

Rath started karate at the age of ten . After the early years in the ASKÖ Karate Club Wolfsberg , he moved to Feldkirchen in Carinthia , where he was trained by Marco Kassmannhuber . He was the first karateka who could win the gold medal for Austria in the competition Kata single general class at the Gōjū-Ryū European Championships. Rath was one of the most successful karate athletes in his country. Most recently he was active in the Inoue-ha Karate-do Feldkirchen association.

Rath died suddenly and unexpectedly of Chiari malformation at the age of 22 .
