Benjamin Soussan

Benjamin David Soussan (born 1943 in Fès , Morocco ) is a German Orthodox rabbi , a founding member of the Orthodox Rabbinical Conference (ORD) and was the regional rabbi of the Israelite Religious Community of Baden (IRG Baden) until June 30, 2012 . Moshe Flomenman was his successor .

From 1995 to 2005 Soussan was the state rabbi of Saxony-Anhalt. From 1990 to 1995 and from 2005 to the end of 2010 he was the community rabbi of the Jewish community in Freiburg im Breisgau .

Life

Benjamin Soussan comes from a Sephardic family in Morocco and later lived in Paris . Since the 1980s he has lived in Freiburg i. Br., Where he was first chairman of the Israelite Congregation in Freiburg from 1983 to 1987.

In the 1990s, his wife Anne was elected chairman of the Jewish community and Benjamin Soussan was appointed chief rabbi of Baden.

Like the European Rabbinical Conference, certified translations of letters from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, which the board of directors of the Jewish community can submit, do not recognize Soussan as a rabbi.

Rabbi Soussan has two sons who are both rabbis. Julien Chaim Soussan is a rabbi in Frankfurt.
